James Corbett wins Martin Divilly Perpetual Cup
The first Galway Senior Ranking snooker event of 2006 took place at Caesars Palace Salthill on Sunday 8 th October. 21 players from all over County Galway took part in the competition. The first semi final involved Benny Fahy of Caesars Palace and James Corbett of Century club Tuam with the latter taking a highly impressive win. Equally impressive was Kevin Monroe of the Mechanics Club who knocked Colin Gannon of Century Club Tuam out at the semi final stage and notched the day's highest break of 59 in the process. The two in-form players contested a very close final and it was Corbett who took victory in the deciding frame to lift the splendid trophy sponsored by Martin Divilly Champion Butchers and top the Galway rankings after the first event of the season. Stephen Killoran of Caesars Palace meanwhile took the prize for most progress by an U18 player.
Day of Shocks As Caesars Hosts U19 National Event
Vincent Muldoon survived a day of shock results at Under-19 level to beat Stephen Killoran 3-0 in the final in Caesars Palace in Galway on Saturday as all the other top seeds were dumped out of the tournament. A strange day of snooker in Galway saw Ireland's top juniors struggle as Connacht showed that having a working provincial association and working county associations is paying dividends as they filled the four semi final spots in the event.
